The one, the only ... Jered Weaver. Former All-American, Roger Clemens Award winner, and Golden Spikes Award winner, his college career stands well against that of USC's Mark Prior, another college phenom; he got a big round of applause when he took the mound. In part due the delay of his career caused by the lengthy negotiations, Weaver's minor league numbers were worse than they otherwise might have been. He still needs to acquire a groundball-inducing pitch of some kind, as today's outing made clear when he got three consecutive outs on three consecutive fly balls, two to the warning track. Despite all these blemishes, he's still considered a top prospect in the Angels system, and could be in the Anaheim of Los Angeles as early as this year.
